Bajaj has increased the price of its flagship motorcycle, the 2019 Dominar 400, by Rs 6,000, pushing the price to Rs 1.8 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). We contacted Bajaj to find out the reason and they said the price at which the bike was launched earlier this year, at Rs 1.74 lakh, was introductory and that the new price accounts for the upgraded equipment on the 2019 Dominar 400.
The new Bajaj Dominar 400 is a big improvement over the previous model, with a fair amount of additional kit and performance upgrades. The 373.3cc engine is the same as before but for 2019, it gets a DOHC setup and develops more power, at 39.9hp. The torque, at 35Nm, however, is the same.
Bajaj also worked on reducing the vibrations, which was an issue in the previous Dominar, and we noted a significant drop while testing the motorcycle. We also found that the new Dominar feels calm and reasonably smooth while cruising at speeds between 100-125kph, further improving the bike’s touring abilities.
The bike’s suspension has also received an update and gets new Endurance USD front forks and a retuned rear monoshock, while the front brakes have also changed to radially mounted calipers.
Visually, 2019 Dominar looks largely similar to the previous model, except for the introduction of a new Aurora Green paint, a few blacked out panels and diamond-cut style alloys. Bajaj is expected to introduce a new gloss red colour option, sometime later this year.
Despite the Rs 6,000 price hike, the 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 sports a competitive price tag, considering its powerful engine and the equipment levels on offer. At present, the Bajaj Dominar 400 sits in a niche with no real competition, when it comes down to specifications alone.
