BMW has just launched two new models in India – the R 1250 R and the R 1250 RT Pro, whic are priced at Rs 15.95 lakh and Rs 22.50 lakh, respectively. The 1250 R is part of the German manufacturer’s Roadster line-up, while the 1250 RT is from the Tour family. The bikes make their way to India as CBU units and dealers have begun accepting bookings for both.
Just as we saw with the R 1250 GS, these two motorcycles are essentially updates to their respective 1,200cc predecessors. Both models are powered by the new 1,254cc, flat-twin engine that produces 136hp at 7,750rpm and 143Nm at 6,250rpm, and feature BMW’s ShiftCam variable valve actuation technology. This is a considerable bump in performance when compared to the 125hp at 7,750rpm and 125Nm at 6,500rpm produced by the 1200 R and 1200 RT.
The R 1250 RT features BMW Motorrad’s patented Telelever and Paralever suspension systems at the front and rear, respectively. The R 1200 R, meanwhile, features a USD fork and the Paralever system at the rear. The rear suspension on both motorcycles is pre-load and rebound adjustable.
Electronic tech on the motorcycles include two riding modes, Automatic Stability Control (ASC), ABS and hill-start assist, as standard. The R 1250 RT features a 5.7-inch TFT display that works alongside an analogue speedometer and tachometer. On the other hand, the R 1250 R features a larger 6.5-inch TFT screen with smartphone connectivity, and also gets touring-oriented gizmos like an audio system.
The R 1200 R is currently priced at Rs 15.05 lakh, which means that the 1250 R comes at a price tag that is Rs 90,000 higher. The R 1200 RT is currently priced at Rs 18.35 lakh - a substantial Rs 4.15 less than the new R 1250 RT.
