Triumph Motorcycles has uploaded a short video on its social media handles that showcases the side panel of its upcoming model, the Thruxton RS. The Thruxton RS could possibly sit above the Thruxton R – currently the highest-spec Triumph Thruxton on sale in the Indian market. Going by Triumph’s nomenclature of badging the top-spec bike in a range as an RS (like the Triumph Street Triple RS) we expect the new Thruxton RS to sit above the current Thruxton R.
The Triumph Thruxton R is held in high regard as one of the most fun-to-ride café racers out there. It features delectable styling, sticky Pirelli tyres, radially mounted Brembo brakes, a Showa USD and Öhlins piggyback suspension at the rear. The upcoming Triumph Thruxton RS is expected to feature even higher-spec components – and possibly an engine that produces more power than the current Thruxton R (97hp output at 6,750rpm).
We could also see RS-specific colours and additional detailing that is somewhere on the lines of the limited-run Thruxton R TFC that was launched in January 2019. The TFC (short for Triumph Factory Customs) featured billet-machined aluminium bits, an Öhlins fork and blacked-out engine casings to visually distinguish it from the regular Thruxton R. The TFC wasn’t just a cosmetic upgrade, though. Triumph also managed to squeeze an additional 10hp and 3Nm of torque from the 1,200cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine by using lighter engine internals, a revised port and cam profile, high-compression pistons and a free-flowing Vanes & Hines exhaust system. All the weight-saving resulted in a motorcycle 5kg lighter than the Thruxton R.
The Thruxton RS may feature some of the upgrades that the TFC model got; including a more powerful engine than that seen on the Thruxton R. While we can only speculate for now, we’ll wait to see, ride and review the model in its entirety after Triumph reveals the motorcycle on November 5, 2019.
