Piaggio has updated its entire scooter line-up to comply with the upcoming BS6 norms, the prices of which are listed here. In the case of the Aprilia SR150 range, the transition brought an engine with a slightly larger capacity, and a new name for the scooter – the SR160. The scooter has now begun reaching dealerships and deliveries are slated to commence soon.
According to dealers, prices for the SR160 start at Rs 1.04 lakh, going up to Rs 1.14 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The rise in prices on these scooters are the most significant hikes we have seen so far, and the higher-spec models have witnessed a price hike of nearly Rs 20,000.
Earlier this week, the company confirmed that the SR160 produces a peak power of 11hp, which is a whole 1hp more than what is produced by 154.8cc engine on its BS4 predecessor. We’re still awaiting details on what else is new on the scooter and its variants and if Piaggio will offer additional features and equipment on the scooter to offset the additional cost. We have seen Honda and TVS do this with the BS6-compliant Activa 125 and Apache RTR 200 4V so far.
Next month, Piaggio will be one of the few notable big-names manufactures at the 2020 Auto Expo, and we can expect to see the manufacturer’s entire line-up on display there.
