TVS has invited us to an event on January 25. We first thought this event could be for the updated BS6 Apache RR 310 that was spied recently. However, the company later revealed that the RR is scheduled for a January 30 launch. We then thought it could be a launch event for the BS6 Star City Plus, but TVS just revealed that motorcycle on its website. Now, three days before the event, the company has just put out a short video teasing its first upcoming electric scooter – the brand's first ever – and we believe this is the product that the company has lined up for its January 25 event.
The teaser video doesn’t reveal much, other than the blurry form of a conventionally styled scooter riding past text that reads “Charge. Life. Coming Soon.” Now if it is, in fact, the sporty-looking TVS Creon e-scooter concept that was unveiled at Auto Expo 2018, TVS has done a good job by throwing us off with the simple scooter in the teaser.
Now, while we do believe that the Creon is in the works, the scooter being teased here may not be it. We believe this could be the electric scooter that we spotted on tests, back in 2017. If that is indeed the case, the upcoming model will be a full-size TVS scooter, evident from its large overall proportions in our spy shots. Expect the new e-scooter to share parts with the TVS Jupiter and to come with a comfortable, spacious and lightly stepped seat. Also on the cards is a new monoshock suspension for the rear and drum brakes, as can be seen in these images. However, we do expect TVS to offer a disc brake as an optional extra.
The images also reveal flush-fitted turn indicators, a roomy flat floorboard and handy bag storage hooks. As with all TVS scooters, expect premium bits like alloy wheels with tubeless tyres to be standard. The routing of the exposed wires suggests that the battery pack will be placed centrally, below the seat. Exactly how much under-seat storage space this will leave remains to be seen.
We also can’t wait to see how the company prices this scooter, and whether this will be the company’s direct rival to the Bajaj Chetak and Ather 450. Given the simple design and mechanicals in the spy shots, we could also assume that this would be the company’s entry-level electric scooter offering undercutting the aforementioned e-scooters, with the Creon being a direct rival in the future.
