Ather has already announced its plan to enter 10 cities by the end of 2020 during the launch of its latest electric scooter – the 450X. Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Pune are on the top of this list, and we now have word that the company will simultaneously enter these cities in July 2020.
With the electric two-wheeler space finally starting to heat up with competition from big brands like Bajaj and TVS, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Ather’s focus is on expansion. The Bengaluru-based manufacturer has said that each city it enters will have at least 10 charge points before launch. Ather is expecting to increase this number to 30-40 chargers in a year.
So far the company has only been selling in Bengaluru, and more recently Chennai. The news of expansion is quite anticipated because as good as Ather’s scooter may be, it doesn’t help that it isn’t available in most of the country. There’s also the factor of new found competition, the Bengaluru-based start-up will soon have to deal with. The first units of the Bajaj Chetak e-scooter will be delivered in Pune and Bengaluru before it is made available in major metros like Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai. The Chetak will be sold via existing KTM outlets. Bajaj has set-up 13 dealerships in Bengaluru and four dealers in Pune so far.
Meanwhile, TVS’ iQube electric scooter can be booked through the brand’s website, as well as via 10 dealerships in Bengaluru. The company has said that the e-scooter will go on sale in other metros at a later date.
