Select Bajaj showrooms have begun accepting bookings for the BS6-compliant Avenger 220 Cruise and Street. According to the dealers, these updated models cost Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom), making them Rs 11,584 more expensive than the outgoing BS4-compliant models. The on-road cost, meanwhile, is closer to Rs 1.43 lakh.
This is the second big update to the 220 Street and 220 Cruise since they were launched. The first one was one year ago when the two models got a single-channel ABS. That update was responsible for taking the bike’s price over the Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom) mark.
While the company hasn’t revealed any official details, dealers tell us the Avenger 220 models will remain cosmetically unchanged. The only addition will be the fuel-injection system and a redesigned exhaust system. For reference, the BS4-spec Avengers make 19hp at 8,400rpm and 17.5Nm of torque at 7,000rpm from its single-cylinder 220cc engine.
The Avenger 220 Cruise is the one with a more classic and chrome-embellished cruiser look, with its most striking feature being the optional large windshield. The Avenger 220 Street, on the other hand, does without as much chrome and comes with a matte-black finish instead.
