BS6 Honda Shine 125 launched at Rs 67,857

Honda 2Wheelers India has launched the BS6-compliant Shine 125 at Rs 67,857 for the base, drum brake-equipped variant. That's approximately Rs 7,000 more than the BS4-compliant drum brake variant. The disc brake-equipped Honda Shine 125 BS6 will set you back Rs 72,557.

The new Honda Shine 125 is powered by an all-new 125cc fuel-injected single-cylinder engine that develops 10.7hp at 7,500rpm and 11Nm at 6,000rpm. These figures are slightly higher than the BS4 Shine's motor, which developed 10.3hp at 7,500rpm and 10.30Nm at 5,500rpm.The motor is paired to a new 5-speed transmission.

While Honda says the BS6 engine delivers 14 percent more fuel economy than the BS4 engine, this increase could also be attributed to the new low-rolling resistance rear tyre.

As is the case with most BS6 updates these days, the Honda Shine 125 also gets a raft of new features to justify the steep price hike. The new Shine gets a silent start system (ACG starter in Honda speak), which eliminates the need for a conventional starter. We've seen this new system at work in the new Honda SP125 that we tested recently.

In addition, the new Shine also gets an engine Stop/Start switch, a convenient feature that was missing in the outgoing model. The switchgear is new and looks like it is a step above the crude and ageing switches on the previous Shine 125. Other additional features include a new instrument cluster and a halogen headlight unit that runs on DC power.

Honda has also tweaked the appearance of the new Shine 125 by adding different graphics, a new-design tail-lamp, black alloys and generous smatterings of chrome on the visor, side panels and exhaust.

Underneath the refreshed design, Honda has altered the chassis by extending the wheelbase by 19mm. Ground clearance has gone up by 5mm as well. The seat length has also been extended by 27mm, which Honda says has been designed for improved long distance comfort.

The new Shine 125 is available with a 3-year warranty as standard, with the option to extend it by an additional three years, by paying a small premium.

Bookings for the new Honda Shine 125 have begun across dealerships in India.

All prices, ex-showroom Delhi.
