Bajaj dealers in Pune have begun taking bookings for the upcoming Dominar 250. The booking amount is set at Rs 500 and the bikes are already on display at some showrooms. While there is no official word on the pricing, the 250 is expected to be priced considerably lower than the 400.
Our guess is that Bajaj could price it around Rs 1.60 lakh (ex-showroom), making it around Rs 30,000 cheaper than the higher-capacity model. At this price, it would be on par with the BS4 Suzuki Gixxer 250 and possibly cheaper than the soon-to-be-launched BS6 version. Another 250cc naked, the FZ 25, is quite a bit cheaper, but it offers significantly less power and kit.
Unlike the Bajaj Dominar 400, the 250 is running on what look like thinner tyres, and it also has a simpler box-section swingarm. The front disc diameter also appears to be smaller than the 320mm unit of the Dominar 400. While the bike has the same wheel design, it misses out on the diamond-cut finish. Other than that, the 250 appears almost identical to the 400. Not only will this help keep prices down, thanks to parts sharing, but also make the Dominar more accessible.
The Dominar 250 will most certainly be powered by the same 250cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that’s also seen in the significantly more expensive KTM 250 Duke and the Husqvarna 250s. While the engine makes 30hp and 24Nm of torque in the KTM, we could see it make slightly lower figures in the Dominar due to a different state of tune.
We will be riding the Bajaj Dominar 250 in little less than two weeks. Stay tuned for the review.
