TVS has officially pulled the plug on the Wego for India. The 110cc scooter will not be part of the company’s BS6 line-up in the country as it is looking to “streamline to enhance dealer profitability”. TVS will continue producing the scooter in BS4 spec for select export markets.
Over the last few months, TVS has been updating its website with its latest BS6 offerings. Most models have already made the cut, but the original timelines for some products may be delayed due to the COVID-19 crisis.
The Wego was introduced around 10 years ago and it was ahead of its time with its large 12-inch wheels. The scooter was quite a popular model for the brand, especially in the first-half of its life in India. However, it wasn’t doing too well for the company in recent times. TVS’ Jupiter and Ntorq are the brand’s most popular scooters now and they’ve already been updated to meet the stricter emission standards.
What this also means is that the number of scooters in the 110cc scooter space have reduced even further. Yamaha recently exited that space and announced that it would only make 125cc scooters henceforth. Many other brands have also been shifting their focus to the growing 125cc scooter segment. The only three big offerings in this declining segment currently are the Honda Activa 6G, TVS Jupiter and the Hero Pleasure Plus.
The Wego will continue to be sold in certain export markets in its previous state of tune.
