BS6 Yamaha MT-15 to make lesser power

The BS6-compliant Yamaha MT-15 was unveiled on December 20, 2019, and while the official launch is yet to happen, we have official documents that reveal the power figures of the upgraded motorcycle.

In its BS4 guise, the MT-15’s 155cc, single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine puts out 19.3hp at 10,000rpm and 14.7Nm of torque at 8,500rpm. In the transition to meet the BS6 standards, the document reveals that the engine’s output has dropped by 0.8hp, so it now puts out 18.5hp at 10,000rpm. In comparison, the BS6 R15, which shares its engine with the MT-15, experienced a lower drop of 0.7hp. However, the post BS6 torque figures haven’t been revealed in the document.

Prices for the BS6 Yamaha MT-15 will be revealed soon but, expect a price hike of about Rs 5,000-6,000 over the BS4 model. The BS6-compliant MT-15 will also be available in a new ‘Ice Fluo Vermillion’ colour scheme. Currently, the MT-15 is priced from Rs 1.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
